  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP1

SUMMARY

This article describes how to use the End User Recovery (EUR) functionality of the Data Protection Manager (DPM) by installing the hotfix that is mentioned in this article.

Consider the following scenario. You have a Microsoft Windows XP-based client computer, a file server and a DPM server. You enable the EUR functionality on the DPM server and install the hotfix that is mentioned in this article on your client computer. Now, if you try to recover an earlier version of a file or folder from the file server, your computer automatically tries to recover the file or folder from the DPM server. This behavior occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The file server is secured by DPM.
  • There are no local shadow copies of the file or folder on the file server.

RESOLUTION

To use the EUR functionality, you must update the Timewarp client on the client computer. To do this, install the program update that is mentioned in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

903234 An update is available to optimize the way that the Volume Shadow Copy Service client accesses snapshots in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows XP

This update package updates the Twext.dll file on the client computer.
