You may not be able to use the advanced e-mail editing features of certain Web-based e-mail services on a device that is running Windows CE 5.0 (895420)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE 5.0

SYMPTOMS

You may not be able to use the advanced e-mail editing features of certain Web-based e-mail services on a device that is running Microsoft Windows CE 5.0. For example, the advanced e-mail editing features that are provided by MSN Hotmail and by Yahoo Mail may not function as expected.

CAUSE

The version of Microsoft Internet Explorer that is included in Windows CE 5.0 does not implement the features that are required for formatted text editing. Specifically, the Dialog Helper (DLGHELPER) component and the MSHTML Editing (MSHTMLED) component are not fully implemented.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Most Web-based e-mail services detect that the browser is running under Windows CE and automatically disable the unsupported editing features. Web-based e-mail services that do this include MSN Hotmail and Yahoo Mail.

Typically, this behavior only occurs if a device manufacturer has modified the Internet Explorer 6 "User Agent" string on the device to hide the fact that the device is running Windows CE.
