The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Web Edition
SYMPTOMS
After you "hot plug" an Intel 1000P PCI Express network adaptor into your Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, the following issues occur: - You receive a message that states that you must restart your computer.
- The second PCI-PCI bridge on the network adaptor has a yellow exclamation point next to it in Device Manager.
This issue does not occur after you "hot swap" an Intel 1000P PCI Express network adaptor.
Notes- Adding a device to an empty slot in a computer while the computer is running is known as "hot plugging" or "hot adding." The operating system automatically recognizes the change.
- Removing a device and then replacing that device with an identical device in the same slot while the computer is running is known as "hot swapping" or "hot switching." The operating system automatically recognizes the change.
RESOLUTIONYou do not have to do anything to resolve this issue. You can safely ignore the message and the yellow exclamation point. You do not have to restart the computer. This issue will not affect the performance of the computer or the performance of the network adaptor.
The second PCI-PCI bridge is not used. Therefore, you can ignore this bridge. If you want to, you can uninstall the second PCI-PCI bridge. However, uninstalling it is not required.
To uninstall the second PCI-PCI bridge, start Device Manager, right-click the device that has a yellow exclamation point next to it, and then click Uninstall. Click Yes to verify that you want to uninstall it.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
