Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook may stop responding when you use the Quick Create form to create a new account (895314)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Quick Create form to create a new account in Microsoft Business Solutions CRM Sales for Outlook (the Outlook client), Microsoft Internet Explorer may stop responding. When Internet Explorer stops responding, the Outlook client also stops responding. You do not receive an error message, and the Application log does not contain any error messages or warning messages.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because of an additional query that is executed after the new account is created. SQL blocking occurs on the computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server. When the query has finished executing, the Outlook client starts responding.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft CRM has a fix for this problem that is part of a cumulative update. The cumulative update information is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. On the Outlook client toolbar, click CRM Contact.
  2. In the FullName box, type Mary North.
  3. Click Account, and then type Z in the Find box. Do not click Find.
  4. Click New to open the Quick Create Web page.
  5. In the Account Name box, type Microsoft, and then click OK.
The Lookup dialog box is still open. The Outlook client has run an additional search that uses the text that you typed in the Find box. In this example, "Z" is used. The additional search may cause the Outlook client to stop responding.

Note If you do not type text in the Find box, the default wildcard character is used.
