The DhcpRequestParams function does not work correctly on a computer that is running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (895246)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, when used with:
    • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario.
  • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is running on your computer.
  • Windows XP hotfix 885270 is installed on your computer.
  • You use a program that calls the DhcpRequestParams function to retrieve data from a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server.
In this scenario, the DhcpRequestParams function returns no data and returns no error message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of code changes in the DhcpRequestParams function in Windows XP SP2.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.
