Your Windows Server 2003-based computer may stop responding when you try to shut it down and user-mode services are putting it under heavy I/O stress (895145)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to shut down a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, and user-mode services are putting the computer under heavy input/output (I/O) stress, the computer
may stop responding.CAUSEIn Windows Server 2003, the shutdown process assumes that user-mode
activity is stopped. This problem occurs because, in rare circumstances, user-mode services still perform file I/O during the shutdown process.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, stop services that perform heavy file I/O
before you shut down the computer.
