A search sometimes returns incorrect results when you use a program that sends NNTP commands to search a newsgroup on your Exchange Server 2003 computer (894788)

SYMPTOMS

When you use a program that sends Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) commands to search a newsgroup on your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 computer, sometimes the search for articles returns incorrect results. For example, the search may return a different article than you expect. Or, the search may return no results at all. This problem occurs even though there are existing articles that meet the search criteria.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an issue with the property that is used in the function call that performs the search.

RESOLUTION

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the following Microsoft Exchange services are automatically stopped, and then restarted during the hotfix installation:
  • Microsoft Exchange Event
  • Microsoft Exchange Information Store
