SYMPTOMS

You can configure one or more actions to occur when Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 triggers an alert. Possible actions include notification by e-mail. However, when you configure the No Connectivity alert to send an e-mail notification to an SMTP server, only every second e-mail notification may reach the recipient. This problem occurs even though the notification is sent every time as expected.

To configure connectivity verifiers to monitor selected computers and networks, follow these steps:
  1. Open the ISA Server Management snap-in, expand YourServerName, and then click Monitoring.
  2. In the center pane, click the Connectivity tab, and then click Create New Connectivity Verifier.
  3. In the New Connectivity Verifier Wizard, type a name for the connectivity verifier in the Connectivity Verifier name box, and then click Next.
  4. Click Browse, select the objects that you want to monitor, and then click OK.
  5. Select the appropriate option for Group used to categorize this connectivity verifier.
  6. In the verification method details, click the appropriate option.
  7. Click Next, click Finish, and then click Apply.
  8. Close the ISA Server Management snap-in.
To configure alert definitions to send e-mail messages to an SMTP server when a connectivity verifier reports errors, follow these steps:
  1. Open the ISA Server Management snap-in, expand YourServerName, and then click Monitoring.
  2. Click the Alerts tab, and then click Configure Alert Definitions.
  3. In the Alert Properties window, click No connectivity, and then click Edit.
  4. In the No Connectivity Properties window, click the Actions tab, and then click to select the Send e-mail check box.
  5. In the SMTP server box, type the name of your SMTP server, type your e-mail address in the From box, type a valid recipient e-mail address in the To box, and then click Next.
  6. Make sure that the alert configuration information that is displayed is correct, click Finish, and then click OK.
  7. Click Apply, and then click OK.
