FIX: DRM files successfully synchronize only when they are saved to a storage device that is named "Storage Card" in Windows CE .NET 4.2 (894187)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2

SYMPTOMS

Digital Rights Media (DRM) files successfully synchronize only when they are saved to a storage device that is named "Storage Card" in Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2. The problem occurs because Microsoft Windows Media Player does not synchronize DRM-protected content.

CAUSE

The component that is used to obtain the StorageID value is named Cedrmutil.exe. Cedrmutil.exe uses a hard-coded value that is named "\Storage Card" from which to read the StorageID value. If the device does not have removable media that is mounted as "\Storage Card," synchronization fails. If the device does have removable media that is mounted as "\Storage Card," but the user synchronizes to a different removable media, the download succeeds. However, the resulting files do not play.
