We recommend that you always install the latest certified graphics drivers from the video adaptor manufacturer.
If issues persist, run Metal Gear Solid in software mode.
3dfx Voodoo and 3dfx Voodoo 2-based 3D accelerator graphics adaptors
When you use a high display resolution in Metal Gear Solid, you may experience a decrease in performance or
video issues when you play the game. To resolve this issue, reduce
the in-game resolution.
When you run two 3dfx Voodoo 2-based 3D accelerator video cards in
Scanline Interleave (SLI) mode, the
ESC menu display may overlap the game menu display.
To
correctly display the game menus, disable SLI mode. To do this, follow these steps::
- Click Start,
point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
- In the Display dialog box, click the Voodoo 2 tab, click Advanced Options, and then disable SLI.

Asus 3D Explorer-based graphics adaptors
When you play Metal Gear Solid, and you are using an Asus 3D Explorer-based graphics adaptor, the game may stop responding during the opening movie. To resolve this issue, download

ATI Rage Fury MAXX and ATI Rage Pro-based graphics adaptors
When you play Metal Gear Solid, real life missile footage may appear black on a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer. On a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition-based computer, the real life missile footage flickers throughout
the movie. When you use the ATI Rage Pro video adaptor, the borders that enclose objects on the
New Game submenu may be corrupted. Additionally, in-game briefing may

Canopus Pure3D II-based video adaptors
When you play Metal Gear Solid, the game stops responding. Additionally, a black screen may appear. After the video of the ascending elevator in
mission 1, the game may stop responding and then the video settings use software mode. To resolve these issues, download
and install the latest 3dfx graphics drivers. To do this, visit the following Voodoo Files Web site:
Creative Labs Graphics Blaster Extreme-based graphics adaptors
When you play Metal Gear Solid, a black box may appear around objects and
around people.
To resolve this issue, download

Diamond Monster 2 and Diamond Monster Fusion-based graphics adaptors
When you play Metal Gear Solid, in-game movies may be blacked out. Additionally, the in-game radar textures may be corrupted. To resolve this issue, turn off the
Scanline Interleave (SLI) mode on the Diamond Monster 2 graphics adaptor. When the SLI mode is turned off, movies appear correctly. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start ,
point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
- In the Display dialog box, click the Voodoo 2 tab, click Advanced Options, and then turn off SLI.
Note If
your Video Display properties do not have the option to turn off SLI mode, install
the latest set of Diamond Monster drivers.

Diamond Stealth3 S540-based graphics adaptors
When you play Metal Gear Solid, and you are using the Diamond Stealth3 S540-based graphics adaptor, you may experience the following issues:
- When you select the Virtual Reality (VR) Training option on the game menu, the game may stop responding. This issue occurs on a Windows 98-based or on a Windows Millennium Edition-based computer.
- You may experience slow frame rates during stealth areas on Windows Millennium Edition-based computers.
- The Ninja does not turn off his stealth suit in the Baker movie on Windows Millennium Edition-based computers.

ELSA Gladiac GeForce2-based graphics adaptors
When you play Metal Gear Solid, you may experience flickering and corruption in the Radar Minimap and
codec. Additionally, game textures may appear under the game area. To resolve this issue, download

NVIDIA GeForce and GeForce 2-based graphics adaptors
When you play Metal Gear Solid, and you are using an NVIDIA GeForce and GeForce 2-based graphics adaptors, if you start a saved game and then watch a codec sequence, the game may stop responding. When you run the game on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, the missile footage
may appear only briefly, and then the missile footage turns black. To resolve this issue, download

Hercules 3D Prophet DDR-based graphics adaptors
Metal Gear Solid may stop responding when you play any mission or start a level. To resolve this issue, download

When you play Metal Gear Solid, you cannot see the opening movie. To

When you play Metal Gear Solid, the game may stop responding at random. To resolve this issue, download

Intel 810 4M chipset,
Intel 810 chipset, and Intel 740 chipset
When you try to start Metal Gear solid in full-screen mode, a general page fault error may occur. On the briefing screen and elsewhere in the game, the text may
be displayed in an oversized and blurry font. Additionally, the game may unexpectedly quit.
Note You must install the latest Intel 810 with 4M-based chipset drivers to run Metal
Gear Solid. However, you can only run the game in software mode.

Matrox Millennium G200 AGP-based graphics adaptors
When you start Metal Gear solid, you may receive an error message that states that
there are insufficient requirements that are not met by the Matrox G-200. Additionally, the game may
stop responding and a black screen may appear when you start the game in full-screen mode.

Orchid Righteous 3D-based graphics adaptors
The Orchid Righteous 3D graphics adaptor is not available as a choice in the
Rendering device menu. This graphics adaptor is not available because the Orchid drivers do not have the appropriate DirectX support. When you try to play Metal Gear solid in software mode, the game may stop responding.

Real 3D Starfighter AGP and Real 3D Starfighter AGP with Intel 740 chipset-based graphics adaptors
When you start Metal Gear Solid, some of the game level submenus may display texture
leaks. Also, the screen resolution is limited to 640x480 with 2 megabytes (MB) or less of video memory. To use a higher resolution, play the game in
software mode.
