SYMPTOMSWhen you try to start a computer in Safe Mode, your Microsoft Wireless pointing device may not respond.
Note To start a computer in Safe Mode, press the F8 key at the Microsoft Windows XP Start menu screen, and then select one of the Safe Mode options.CAUSEThis behavior typically occurs because a Windows XP-based computer's BIOS does not support earlier Bluetooth devices. This behavior occurs when the Windows XP operating system cannot start the Bluetooth device drivers in Safe Mode.WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, connect a USB or a PS/2 mouse or keyboard to the Windows XP-based computer before you start the computer in Safe Mode.STATUS
This behavior is by design.MORE INFORMATIONThis behavior affects the Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer for Bluetooth and the Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth.
However, more recent Bluetooth devices, such as the Microsoft Optical Desktop Elite for Bluetooth and the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer for Bluetooth may function correctly in Windows XP Safe Mode.
