The Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Elite function keys do not respond when you start your computer in Safe Mode (894038)

SYMPTOMS

After you try to start your computer in Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key at the Microsoft Windows XP Start menu screen and then selecting one of the Safe Mode options, the function keys on your Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Elite keyboard do not respond. Additionally, you cannot enter the system BIOS when you press the F2 key on the Wireless Optical Desktop Elite keyboard.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the F LOCK key status light on the wireless receiver is not turned on when you enter Windows XP Safe Mode.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, examine the receiver and make sure that the F LOCK key status light is on before you enter Windows XP Safe Mode.

Note On the receiver, the F LOCK key light is labeled with an "F" only.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
