FIX: A fatal exception may occur in the AYGShell component if the GetProcAddress function fails when you start a Windows CE .NET 4.2-based platform (893414)

SYMPTOMS

You may experience the following conditions:
  • When you start a Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2-based platform that uses the AYGShell component, a fatal exception may occur that makes the device stop functioning.
  • The GetProcAddress function may return the base address of the DLL when the call to the GetProcAddress function fails. The expected behavior is that the GetProcAddress returns NULL on failure.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because an error in the GetProcAddress function implementation causes the base address of the DLL module to be returned instead of NULL when the module resides in process slot 0 and the requested entry point is not exported. A known scenario exists where the common controls initialization code calls the GetProcAddress function on the AYGShell component for an entry point that is not exported. In this scenario, the common controls initialization code tries to call the resulting module base address. However, this module base address does not contain executable code.

Prerequisites

This software update is supported only if all previously issued software updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you install this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To clean the platform, click Clean on the Build menu. To build the platform, click Build Platform on the Build menu. You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.
