FIX: Errors may occur in the GWES module and a Windows CE 5.0-based device may not start when an unsupported locale identifier is set in persistent registry (893308)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE 5.0

SYMPTOMS

A Microsoft Windows CE 5.0-based device may not start if a locale identifier (LCID) is set in persistent registry but the loaded image does not include support for that locale. This problem may cause errors in the Graphics, Windowing, and Events Subsystem (GWES) module (Gwes.exe).

CAUSE

An application is running on a device image that supports a LCID. When the application calls the SetUserDefaultLCID function, that LCID can be stored in persistent registry. If the device is flashed with a new image that does not support this LCID, the new image will read the unsupported LCID from persistent registry and not start.
