The text in your Visio 2003 drawing no longer uses a custom font after you save the drawing to a Visio 2002 drawing format (893307)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
- Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003
SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario. You create a drawing in Microsoft Office Visio 2003 that contains text that uses a custom font. Then, you save the drawing to a Microsoft Visio 2002 drawing format. To do this, you click Save As on the File menu, and then you click Visio 2002 Drawing (*.vsd) in the Save as type box.
After you save the drawing to the Visio 2002 format, the text that is in the drawing no longer uses the custom font. Instead, the font of the text is changed to Font 0 (zero). For example, Font 0 (zero) is the Arial font in the English-language version of Visio 2003. CAUSEThis issue occurs if the custom font has incomplete or missing character set information. That is, the Unicode ranges and the code pages that are supported by this custom font is incomplete or is missing. If this information is not present in the custom font, Visio 2003 cannot convert the custom font to the Visio 2002 drawing format. Instead, Visio 2003 uses the default character set. Therefore, the Arial font is used instead of the custom font. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, use custom fonts that have the appropriate character set information. You can use the Font properties extension tool to view the properties of the custom font to help you determine the Unicode ranges and the code pages that are supported by that custom font. To do this, click the CharSet/Unicode tab of the Font properties extension tool. To obtain the Font properties extension tool, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Note To make sure that an updated font is used correctly by Visio 2003 when you update a font, remove the original font from the Fonts folder in Control Panel, and then install the updated font.
