Custom properties are not sorted correctly when you generate a report in non-English versions of Visio 2002 (893304)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional
  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Standard

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. Your Microsoft Visio 2002 drawing contains shapes that have numeric data. The numeric data is stored in custom properties. You generate a report for the shapes in your drawing. When you try to sort the report by numeric values, the custom properties are not sorted correctly. You may experience this issue if conditions that are similar to the following are true:
  • You are running a non-English version of Visio 2002 and a non-English version of Microsoft Windows. For example, you are running the French version of Visio 2002 and the French version of Microsoft Windows XP.
  • The regional options setting in the Regional and Language Options tool in Control Panel is set to French (Canada). You are using the French version of Visio.
This issue may also occur with languages and settings other than French.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Decimal symbol setting of the locale in Windows uses a comma to represent decimal values, instead of a period. The comma is the default decimal symbol that is used in many European locales. There is a known issue in the way that numeric values are sorted in non-English versions of Visio 2002.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, configure the Decimal symbol setting to use a period. Then, create the report. Users can then modify the report and change the periods in decimal values to commas.

To configure the Decimal symbol setting in Windows, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type intl.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Regional Options tab, and then click Customize.
  3. Click the Numbers tab.
  4. Click . in the Decimal symbol box, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
