FIX: Errors may occur when you use the BinaryFormatter class or the SoapFormatter class to serialize an object in the .NET Framework 1.1 (893251)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the BinaryFormatter class or the SoapFormatter class to serialize an object in the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, errors may occur. The errors occur when the previously serialized object is deserialized.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because serialization preserves the object layout in a specific order. When the same object is deserialized, the changes to the object layout and to the order of the objects may cause errors to occur.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.
