SYMPTOMS
If you try to open a mapped Distributed File System (DFS) folder, you receive an error message that is similar to the following error message:
drive letter:\ is not accessible.
Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either
because the entire machine is unavailable, or access has been denied.
This symptom occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The DFS folder is available for offline use.
- You are logged on in offline mode.
- You used cached credentials to log on.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.
