Windows Installer packages for Host Integration Server 2000 will install Host Integration Server 2000 on a system that already has Host Integration Server 2004 installed (893154)

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Windows Installer (.msi) packages for Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 will install Host Integration Server 2000 on a system that already has Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 installed.

If Host Integration Server 2000 is installed over Host Integration Server 2004, the Host Integration Server 2000 installation will not function correctly. The symptoms that you experience depend on which Windows Installer package for Host Integration Server 2000 is installed over Host Integration Server 2004. The Windows Installer packages for Host Integration Server 2000 are HiServer.msi, HiClient.msi, and HiAdmin.msi.

CAUSE

The Windows Installer packages for Host Integration Server 2000 were not designed to verify whether later versions of Host Integration Server are installed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
