The "LcsCmd /?" command does not display command-line help in the German and Japanese versions of Live Communications Server 2005 (893068)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

The LcsCmd command does not display command-line help when the /? switch is specified in the German and Japanese versions of Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the German or Japanese version of Live Communications Server 2005 is installed on a computer that is running an English version of Microsoft Windows.

The LcsCmd command does not display Unicode characters in the German and Japanese versions of Live Communications Server 2005. The LcsCmd command can display only ANSI characters in the German and Japanese versions of Live Communications Server 2005.

The LcsCmd command was built with an implicit call to the setlocale(LC_ALL, "C") C-Runtime function. The C locale assumes that all character data types are 1 byte. Additionally, the C locale assumes that all character data types have a value that is always less than 256.
