SYMPTOMSWhen you try to use Network Load Balancing Manager (Nlbmgr.exe) to create a Network Load Balancing (NLB) cluster, Nlbmgr.exe does not create the cluster. When this problem occurs, the following entry may be logged in the Setupapi.log file:Error 0xe0000228: There are no compatible drivers for this device.CAUSEThis problem occurs when you run the 32-bit version of Nlbmgr.exe on a 64-bit computer.
Note Because most of the 32-bit Network Load Balancing components (Mlb.exe, Wlbs.exe, and Nlbmgr.exe) appear to run well in a 64-bit environment, you may not notice this problem.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, use the 64-bit version of Nlbmgr.exe on a 64-bit computer.MORE INFORMATIONWhen you use the 32-bit version of Nlbmgr.exe to complete the binding process, Nlbmgr.exe appears to be bound. However, the driver is not loaded.
You cannot use the version of Nlbmgr.exe that is currently included with the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 Administration Tools Pack (Adminpak.msi) to manage 64-bit computers. The Nlbmgr.exe file that is included with Adminpak.msi is a 32-bit version of the file.
