FIX: Windows Media Player 9 Series may ignore a fractional STARTTIME value and a fractional DURATION value for a non-English locale (892763)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Millennium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 98 Second Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series may ignore a fractional STARTTIME value and a fractional DURATION value for a non-English locale. When you use the .asx playlists that contain the STARTTIME specifier and the DURATION specifier, the fractional time value may be ignored if the non-English locale does not use the English "." character as the separating decimal symbol. Scenarios that rely on more accuracy in the play-back time may find that playback is actually starting at the start of the second value. For example, 0:00:2.5 becomes 0:00:2.0.

CAUSE

The .asx parsing code in Windows Media Player 9 Series relies on the English "." character as the separating decimal symbol and does not acknowledge any other separating decimal symbol.
