Web extensions in IIS 6.0 that were previously allowed are prohibited after you upgrade a Windows Server 2003-based computer to Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (892509)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer to Windows Server 2003 Service Pack (SP1) Release Candidate (RC), Web extensions in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 that were previously set to Allowed may be set to Prohibited.

For example, if a Microsoft ASP.NET Web service extension is set to Allowed in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in in IIS Manager, after you upgrade the computer to Windows Server 2003 SP1 RC, the ASP.NET Web service extension may be set to Prohibited.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the status of Web extensions that you want to enable back to Allowed in the Web Service Extension list in the IIS Manager MMC snap-in.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to the Windows Server 2003-based computer by using an account that has administrative permissions.
  2. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  3. In the IIS Manager MMC snap-in, expand ComputerName (local computer), and then click Web Service Extensions.
  4. In the details pane, right-click each Web extension that you want to enable, and then click Allow.

    For example, if you want to enable ASP.NET, right-click ASP.NET in the Web Service Extension list, and then click Allow.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
