SYMPTOMSSome virtual directory configuration information may be lost on your computer that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0. For example, the virtual directory name may unexpectedly change to a different name. When this problem occurs, the virtual directory may experience lost configuration information such as lost authentication and access information and lost IP address restrictions.
Additionally, the following event may be logged to the System log on your IIS 6-based computer:

ErrorCode : 0x0000000DCAUSEThis problem occurs when the following conditions are true: - You create two virtual directories on your computer that is running IIS.
- The virtual directories that you create have similar names. However, one virtual directory name includes a dash character ("-") or an apostrophe character ("'"). For example, you create one virtual directory that is named Sub1, and then you create another virtual directory that is named Sub-1.
- You restart your computer that is running IIS.
RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing.
