The fill color of a rectangle or of a text box may not print when printed as separations or as a PDF file in Publisher 2003 (892419)

SYMPTOMS

When you print a publication page to a color printer or to an ImageSetter printer, or when you print to a PDF file in Microsoft Office Publisher 2003, the fill spot color of a rectangle or of a text box may not print.

Additionally, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • You receive the following error message when you try to print a publication:
    Publisher cannot continue printing because of an error. For more information, press F1 now.
  • When you print separations, the colors do not print correctly for the separation.
  • Some of the objects in the foreground do not print when you print separations.
Note If you view your publication in Print Preview, the fill spot colors appear correctly.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when all the following conditions are true:
  • The publication page contains a rectangle around the page margins that were made with BorderArt.
  • The publication page contains several rectangles or text boxes with text and with a fill spot color.
  • The line color for the BorderArt uses the same fill spot color that is used in the rectangles or in the text boxes.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Bring the BorderArt object to the front

To bring the BorderArt object to the front, follow these steps:
  1. Click to select the rectangular BorderArt object.
  2. On the Arrange menu, point to Order, and then click Bring to Front.
  3. Print your publication as separations to your printer, and then examine the printed separations.

Method 2: Use a master page for the BorderArt object

To use a master page for your BorderArt object, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the rectangular BorderArt object, and then click Cut.
  2. On the View menu, click Master Page.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Paste. Position the BorderArt object if it is required.
  4. Print your publication as separations to your printer, and then examine the printed separations.
