When you print a Publisher 2002 or Publisher 2003 spot color publication as separations, JPG images appear as blank boxes in the Portable Document Format file (891903)

SYMPTOMS

You save a Microsoft Publisher 2002 or Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 spot color publication as a PostScript file with separations. Then, you distill the PostScript file by using Adobe Acrobat to create a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. After you do this, you may find that all the JPG images that are contained in the original Publisher file appear as blank boxes in the PDF file.

Note When you print the spot color publication directly to a color printer, the JPG images may print correctly.

CAUSE

This issue may occur because of incorrect image color settings in the original spot color publication.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Open the publication in Publisher 2002 or in Publisher 2003.
  2. Right-click the JPG image that appears as a blank box in the PDF file.
  3. Click Format Picture, and then click the Picture tab.
  4. In the Color list, click Automatic, and then click Recolor.
  5. In the Color list, click the appropriate spot color, and then click OK to close the Recolor Picture dialog box.
  6. Click OK to close the Format Picture dialog box.
  7. Save the publication as a PostScript file by using the Microsoft Generic Color PS for Commercial Printing printer driver or by using any other PostScript printer driver.

  8. Distill the PostScript file to create a PDF file. Then, make sure that the JPG images are distilled correctly.
Note Repeat steps 1 through 6 for all the JPG images that are contained in the Publisher file.
