A device cannot appear in Connection Manager and not become an AsyncMac device in Windows CE for Pocket PC 2002 (891901)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE for Pocket PC 2002

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows CE for Pocket PC 2002, you cannot have a device appear in Connection Manager and not have it become an AsyncMac device.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because in Windows CE for Pocket PC 2002, Connection Manager directly uses Telephony API (TAPI) to list the available devices. When TAPI support is added to the NDISWAN driver to make the device appear in Connection Manager, the device is picked up and then used by AsyncMac instead of by the NDISWAN driver.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
