You receive a "Could not connect to Virtual Server. Access was denied" error message when you open the Virtual Server Administration Website in Virtual Server 2005 (891609)

SYMPTOMSWhen you open the Virtual Server Administration Website in Microsoft Virtual Server 2005, you receive the following error message: Could not connect to Virtual Server. Access was denied. You can specify an alternate virtual server below. CAUSEThis issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true: - You run Virtual Server 2005 on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, and you upgrade your computer to Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
- You run Virtual Server 2005 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, and you upgrade your computer to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
The enhanced security settings in Windows XP SP2 and in Windows Server 2003 SP1 prevent access to the Virtual Server Administration Website. You must have sufficient DCOM permissions before you can use the Virtual Server Administration Website to connect to Virtual Server 2005. RESOLUTIONMethod 1- Click Start, click Run, type dcomcnfg.exe
in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Expand Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, and then expand DCOM Config.
- Right-click Virtual Server, and then click Properties.
- Click the Security tab.
- Under Launch and Activation Permissions, click Customize, and then click Edit.
- In the Group or user names box, click Authenticated Users.
- In the Permissions for Authenticated Users box, click to select the Allow check box that is next to Local Activation.
Note If you also want to enable remote activation, click to select the Allow check box that is next to Remote Activation. - Click OK two times.
Method 2Run the Virtual Server 2005 installation program after you install Windows Server 2003 SP1 or Windows XP SP2.
Note When you remove or reinstall Virtual Server 2005, virtual machine files and configuration information are not removed or changed.
