This article describes how to disable Microsoft MSN Messenger 6.0 traffic in Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000.

To disable MSN Messenger 6.0 traffic, follow these steps:
  1. Create a content group for MSN Messenger 6.0. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start ISA Management.
    2. Expand Servers and Arrays, expand Server Name, and then expand Policy Elements.
    3. Right-click Content Groups, point to New, and then click Content Group.
    4. In the Name box, type MSN. In the Available types box, type application/x-msn-messenger.
    5. Click Add, and then click OK.
  2. Create a site and content rule to deny MSN Messenger 6.0 traffic. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start ISA Management.
    2. Expand Servers and Arrays, expand Server Name, and then expand Access Policy.
    3. Right-click Site and Content Rules, point to New, and then click Rule.
    4. Type a name for the rule, and then click Next.
    5. On the Rule Action page, click Deny, and then click Next.
    6. On the Rule Configuration page, click Custom, and then click Next.
    7. On the Destination Sets page, click All destinations in the Apply this rule to box, and then click Next.
    8. On the Schedule page, click Always in the Use this schedule box, and then click Next.
    9. On the Client Type page, click Any request, and then click Next.
    10. On the Content Groups page, click Only the following content types. Under Content type, click to select the MSN check box, and then click Next.
    11. On the Completing the New Site and Content Rule Wizard page, make sure the settings are correct, and then click Finish.
