INTRODUCTION

This article describes the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issue that is fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated January 4, 2005.

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • Some users experience incorrect search behavior when they search for Lotus Notes documents

After you configure an IBM Lotus Notes database as a content source in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, you may find that some users experience incorrect search behavior when they search the portal site for Lotus Notes documents. For example, certain Lotus Notes documents are not returned in the search results.

This problem occurs if the document uses an$Author field and everyone has Read permissions to the Lotus Notes database. In this situation, the Lotus Notes protocol handler incorrectly processes the permissions that are set on the document. Therefore, crawls of the document are not successful.
