Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package also fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • When you copy items that are from a public folder that is on your Microsoft Exchange server to your Microsoft Outlook mailbox while Outlook 2003 is in Cached Exchange Mode, the items that you copied disappear from your mailbox folder when you synchronize your mailbox with the Exchange server. Instead, the items that you copied appear in the Local Failures folder.

This issue occurs when the items that you copied from the public folders have many entries in the PR_NT_SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR security descriptor. When the PT_NT_SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR security descriptor is larger than the remote procedure call (RPC) buffer, Outlook 2003 cannot successfully synchronize with the Exchange server.
