You may receive an empty result when you try to run a report by using the built-in Reporting feature in Systems Management Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (891513)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario: You try to run a report by using the built-in Reporting feature in Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Specifically, you use a wildcard character (%, for example) in one or more input boxes in the Reporting feature. In this scenario, you may receive an empty result.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because not all input boxes in the Reporting feature can handle wildcard characters. For example, this issue occurs if you use a wildcard character in the Software Title box.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, insert "25" after the first wildcard character. For example, type %25acrobat% instead of %acrobat%. Or, type %25dell% instead of %dell%.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Systems Management Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
