FIX: You cannot put Web parts under a portal area with a name that contains a space when you use the Content Management Server 2002 Connector for SharePoint Technologies (891393)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 Connector for SharePoint Technologies

SYMPTOMS

You have a Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server portal area with a name that contains spaces in Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002 Connector for SharePoint Technologies. When you put Web parts inside the SharePoint Portal Server portal area, you may receive an error message and the area cannot be opened. You may also receive a message that is similar to the following in the application event log:Event Source: Microsoft.SharePoint Event
ID: 0
Event Type: Warning
Description: "/Test%20SubArea" contains illegal character '%'. Note You only experience this symptom when you are not a local administrator on the SPS server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Microsoft Internet Explorer encodes the space character into an escaped character of %20. However, the percent (%) character is not supported in the Microsoft.SharePoint.SPWeb.OpenWeb method that is used by the MCMS 2002 Connector Web part API.
