INTRODUCTION

This article describes the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issues that are fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated December 21, 2004.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • An "UnauthorizedAccessException" error message occurs when you use a custom program to create a My Site personal site on a portal site in a server farm deployment of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 that uses shared services

Your server farm deployment of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 is configured to use shared services. One portal site hosts shared services, and a separate portal site hosts My Site personal sites. When you run a custom program that creates a new personal site for a user on the portal site that hosts personal sites, the personal site is not created. Instead, an "UnauthorizedAccessException" error message occurs. The following is an example of the exception error message:
Unhandled Exception: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: You do not have access to create this personal site. at Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.UserProfiles.UserProfile.a(Uri A_0) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.UserProfiles.UserProfile.a(Uri A_0) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.UserProfiles.UserProfile.CreatePersonalSite() at Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.UserProfiles.UserProfile.CreatePersonalSite() at CreateMySite.Module1.CreatePersonalSiteSample(String strPersonalSitesPorta lUrl, String strUserAccountName) in Drive:\Anant\sps\CreateMySite\Module1.vb:line 35 at CreateMySite.Module1.Main(String[] args) in Drive:\Anant\sps\CreateMySite\Modu le1.vb:line 12
You experience these symptoms even though you are the administrator.
  • New My Site personal sites do not inherit the locale that is configured for the portal site

You configure the locale of the portal site on the Regional Settings page for the portal site, and then you create a new My Site personal site. When you view the regional settings of the personal site, the locale of the personal site does not use the same locale that you configured for the portal site. New personal sites do not inherit the locale that is set for the portal site.

For example, you change the locale of the portal site from English (United States) to English (Canada), and then you create a new My Site personal site. When you view the regional settings of the personal site, the locale is set to English (United States).
