Your QuickTime Player with a Firewall Client may not retransmit in Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004 (891245)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004, Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use the QuickTime Player in a Firewall Client (FWC) forward scenario in Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004, QuickTime may not retransmit. In this scenario, ISA logging shows that messages from the local host to the external server were denied. This issue occurs only if you have QuickTime users who use the Firewall Client in a route relationship.

CAUSE

During the QuickTime unique Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) session, a message is sent in the middle of the setup session. This functionality may confuse the filter.

Note The setup session is the session where all the ports are declared.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, disable User Datagram Protocol (UDP) remote binding for the QuickTime Player in the Firewall Client Settings dialog box. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In the ISA Server Management console tree, click General.
  2. In the Details pane, click Define Firewall Client Application Settings.
  3. On the Application Settings tab, click New.
  4. In the Application box, type QuickTimePlayer.
  5. In the Key box, type Disable.
  6. In the Value box, type 1.
  7. Click OK two times to close the Firewall Client Settings dialog box.
  8. In the ISA Server Details pane, click Apply to save these settings.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
