FIX: The Video Mixer Renderer (VMR) incorrectly scales anamorphic content (891220)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft DirectX 9.1 Software Development Kit Update

SYMPTOMS

When applications that use the Video Mixer Renderer (VMR) try to play back anamorphic content, the resultant video may be scaled incorrectly. Anamorphic content is found on some DVD titles and Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) output. For example, high definition television tuner cards produce ATSC output. Inappropriate scaling may occur when applications display anamorphic content or switch between content with square pixels and non-square pixels.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the VMR does not always use the video stream as the master stream. This behavior occurs if the anamorphic video contains one or both of the following streams:
  • A subpicture stream
  • A closed caption stream
If either of these streams have square pixels or a 4:3 aspect ratio, the video stream may be incorrectly scaled.
