When you view the custom properties of a shape in Visio 2003, incorrect prompts are displayed for some custom properties (891174)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003

SYMPTOMS

A shape in your Microsoft Office Visio 2003 drawing has many custom properties. When you view the custom properties of the shape, you may experience the following symptoms:
  • The correct prompt is displayed in the Prompt area of the Custom Properties dialog box for some custom properties.
  • An incorrect prompt is displayed in the Prompt area of the Custom Properties dialog box for other custom properties.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the shape has more than 20 custom properties. In this situation, the correct prompt is displayed in the Custom Properties dialog box for each of the first 20 custom properties. However, an incorrect prompt is displayed in the Custom Properties dialog box for each custom property that is after the first 20 custom properties. A previously displayed prompt is displayed for each custom property that is after the first 20 custom properties.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use labels instead of prompts. For example, when you add a new custom property to a shape, add the text that you want in the Label box instead of in the Prompts box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

The Custom Properties dialog box is designed to display 20 custom properties at a time. The following list contains sample scenarios:
  • A shape has 25 custom properties that are named Property1 to Property25. None of the custom properties are hidden. In this scenario, the first 20 custom properties, Property1 to Property20, are listed in the Custom Properties dialog box.
  • A shape has 25 custom properties that are named Property1 to Property25. The first 4 custom properties are hidden. In this scenario, Property5 to Property24 are listed in the Custom Properties dialog box.
To view all the custom properties for a shape, click Custom Properties Window on the View menu. Scroll to view all the custom properties. Note that the prompts that are defined for custom properties are not displayed in this window.
