This article describes the Word 2003 issues that are fixed in the Word 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated December 14, 2004.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue:

  • 889409 You receive a "Word was unable to read this document. It may be corrupt" error message when you open a document in Word 2003

This hotfix package also fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • If you use the Envelopes and Labels tool in Word 2003 to create mailing labels by using addresses from a Novell GroupWise address book, you may receive the following error message:

    Unspecified error, Check your MAPI setup. You must have Extended MAPI version 1.0 or higher to use this feature.
  • If you create a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macro that loops through the Revisions collection by using a For Each loop on a Revisions collection object, you may experience the following symptoms:
    • The loop stops responding when it tries to process some revisions in a Word 2003 document.
    • The macro appears to enter an infinite loop.

  • The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Office 2003 SP1 installed or on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed.

    However, we have tested this hotfix more extensively on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Office 2003 SP1 installed than we have on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed, some file conflicts may occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend it.
