Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues. They were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.
  • E-mail notifications display the name of the user who deleted a document in a document library as "Unknown"

You configure the Alerts feature in Windows SharePoint Services to send you an e-mail notification to notify you when a document in a document library is deleted. The e-mail notification that you receive lists the user who deleted the document as "unknown." For example, the e-mail notification that you receive contains a line that is similar to the following:

ItemName was deleted by unknown at Date Time.

ItemName is the name of the document.
  • Multiple versions of a document are listed after you copy a document to the document library in Explorer view or by using Web folders

You enable versioning for a document library in your Windows SharePoint Services Web site. You also enable the Alerts feature to send you e-mail notifications when content in the document library changes. You open the document library in Explorer view, or you connect to the document library by using Web folders. After you drag a document to the document library, you experience the following symptoms:
    • When you view the version history of the document in All Documents view, more than one version of the document is listed.
    • Multiple e-mail notifications are generated.

  • Users intermittently cannot access the portal site for periods of time

Users intermittently cannot access the portal site. The portal site appears to be unavailable for several minutes. This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
    • The content database contains a large portal site and lots of small subsites, such as My Site personal sites. For example, the content database contains a portal site that stores lots of documents and 8,000 My Site personal sites.
    • You delete a list or a document on the Quick Launch bar of the subsite, and then you delete a list or a document on the Quick Launch bar of the portal site.
In this scenario, information from queries in a certain stored procedure is cached. Microsoft SQL Server tries to reuse this information.
  • The status of Microsoft Office documents in a document library incorrectly appears as "Pending" after you restore a Windows SharePoint Services Web site from backup

You use the Stsadm.exe command-line tool to restore a Windows SharePoint Services Web site from backup. You enable the Content Approval feature for a document library on the Web site. A user who has read-only permission for the Web site logs on to the Web site and then opens a Microsoft Office document in the document library. When the user views the properties of the Office document, the approval status of the Office document unexpectedly appears as "Pending." You do not experience this problem if a user who is a list administrator opens the Office document before a user who has read-only permissions opens the Office document.
