INTRODUCTIONThis article describes the Microsoft Office 2003 issue that is fixed in the Microsoft Office 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated January 13, 2005. back to the topIssues that the hotfix package fixesThe following issue is fixed in this hotfix package, but was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article: - You receive a program error and you must shut down Microsoft Office Word 2003 after you install and use the Hungarian Grammar checker from Microsoft Office Proofing Tools 2003. This problem occurs when you create a paragraph that contains only extended characters. The paragraph may contain a single extended character or a series of the same extended character. For example, an extended character may be a fraction character or the smiley face character. Version 3.2.0.2 of MSGRHU32.dll is known to exhibit this problem. This file is included with Microsoft Office 2003 and Office 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 with SP1 installed or without SP1 installed. However, we have tested this hotfix more extensively on Office 2003 with SP1 than we have on Office 2003 without SP1. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 without SP1, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend this configuration.

back to the topWORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, disable the Check grammar as you type option and the Label text with smart tags option in Word 2003. To do this, follow these steps: - Start Word 2003.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Spelling & Grammar tab, click to clear the Check grammar as you type check box, and then click OK.
- On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options.
- On the Smart Tags tab, click to clear the Label text with smart tags check box and then click OK.
