You receive an "Internal Server Error" error message when you try to save an appointment to a calendar that is in a public folder in Outlook Web Access (890633)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save an appointment to a calendar that is in a public folder in Outlook Web Access (OWA), you receive an "Internal Server Error" error message. You receive this error message even though your appointment is saved.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You do not have read permission to the calendar where you are trying to save the appointment.
  • You are using the rich version of OWA in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 environment.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

You must install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Admin Service and all dependent services will be restarted. Additionally, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is restored.

Note The hotfix installer may detect that the IIS application pool process, specifically the W3wp.exe process, is using files that the installer has to update. If this behavior occurs, you can click the Continue option because the W3wp.exe process will stop when the IIS Admin Service stops.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.

You will not receive this error message if you use the reach version of Outlook Web Access.
