SYMPTOMS

You may experience one or both the following symptoms in your Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 deployment:
  • If you view the Application log, entries for category (1015) events do not contain text in the Description field.

Note A category (1015) event is logged if an error occurs during a "move users" operation in Live Communications Server 2005.
  • If you use the Live Communications Server 2005 Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 to monitor the status of your Live Communications Server deployment, you notice that some events do not trigger the corresponding alert message in MOM 2005.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the following Live Communications Server 2005 registry subkey is incorrectly named:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\Live Communications User Services WMI Provider

This registry subkey registers the event source for one of the Live Communications Server 2005 components.

RESOLUTION

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, rename the registry subkey that is mentioned in the "Cause" section to the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\Live Communications WMI Provider

Important You must rename this registry subkey on every one of the Live Communications Server computers in your organization.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\Live Communications User Services WMI Provider

  3. On the Edit menu, click Rename.
  4. Type Live Communications WMI Provider, and then press ENTER.
  5. Quit Registry Editor.

STATUS
