Terminal Services users do not receive notification when remote control sessions have ended.

Note Remote control sessions are also known as shadowing sessions.

Hotfix installation information

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

This hotfix adds a message that notifies the Terminal Services user that the shadowing session has ended. To resolve the problem, you must also create a registry entry after you install the hotfix. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type ShowShadowStop, and then press ENTER.
  5. Double-click ShowShadowStop, type 1 in the Value box, click Decimal, and then click OK.
  6. Close Registry Editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

By default, the message box that is created by this hotfix will display for 60 seconds. This time-out value can be adjusted by creating a registry entry on the Terminal Server:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type ShadowTimeOut , and then press ENTER.
  5. Double-click ShadowTimeOut.
  6. I n the Value box, type the new time-out value in seconds, click Decimal, and then click OK.
  7. Quit Registry Editor.
