SUMMARY

Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) supports distribution points on computers that are running Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003.

SMS 2003 supports the following distribution points:
  • Distribution points that use the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS).
  • Distribution points that do not use BITS. If BITS is not enabled, distribution points use the server message block (SMB) protocol.
SMS 2003 with SP1 supports these distribution points on computers that are running Windows Storage Server 2003. SMS 2003 with SP1 does not support site system roles other than distribution points on computers that are running Windows Storage Server 2003.

Note SMS 2.0 and SMS 2003 without service packs installed do not support distribution points on computers that are running Windows Storage Server 2003.

SMS is designed to work with any hardware that is certified on the Windows Hardware Compatibility List for computers that are running Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
