INTRODUCTION

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and the x64-based versions of Windows Server 2003 introduce a new feature that increases the amount of information that is logged by the Windows Error Reporting service after a print spooler crash.

MORE INFORMATION

After you install Windows Server 2003 SP1 or an x64-based version of Windows Server 2003, if a print spooler crash occurs, more information is logged by the Windows Error Reporting service than was logged before you installed SP1.

The option to include the additional information in the Windows Error Reporting log is controlled by the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\DisableWERLogging

The additional information that is included in the Windows Error Reporting log does not affect the performance of Windows Server 2003 and does not have any other noticeable affect on your system.

By default, the option to include the additional information in the Windows Error Reporting log is enabled. When this option is enabled, the registry entry has the value of 0.

To disable the option to include the additional information in the Windows Error Reporting log, follow these steps:Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Expand the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\DisableWERLogging

  3. Right-click DisableWERLogging, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
