How to enable spending thermometers in Money 2005 (890399)

This article describes how to enable spending thermometers so that they appear on the My Money page in Microsoft Money 2005.

Spending thermometers show you the amount of money that you have spent in a specific category. Spending thermometers also show you how close you are to your spending limit. To enable spending thermometers so that they appear on the My Money page, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Alerts Center.
  2. Under Advisor FYI, click Customize your Advisor FYI alerts.
  3. Click the Monthly Spending tab.
  4. Click the category that you want to enable a spending thermometer for.
  5. Click to select the Tell me when my monthly spending in this category is check box, and then click one of the following options:
    • over

      Note If you click over, you must also type an amount.
    • over monthly budget of $x.
    • within 15% ($x) of budget.
  6. Make sure that the Show thermometer on Money Home page check box is selected.
  7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 for any other categories that you want to enable a spending thermometer for.
  8. When you are finished, click OK.
When you click Home, the spending thermometers appear on the My Money home page.

Note In Money 2005, the option to view spending thermometers is not available in the Account Register as it was in earlier versions of Microsoft Money.
