You cannot back up your data file to a floppy disk in Microsoft Money (890395)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to back up your data file to a floppy disk in Microsoft Money 2005 or later versions, you may receive a message that is similar to the following:Money has filled the current disk. Please insert Backup Disk 2 into the A:\ drive so that we may continue to build your backup.When you try to back up a Money data file that is 7 megabytes (MB) or larger, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Not enough free space on this disk. Retry?

CAUSE

This problem occurs if there is already a Microsoft Money back up file on the floppy disk.

WORKAROUND

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Format the floppy disk

  1. Click Start, click Run, type Explorer.exe, and then click OK.
  2. In the left pane, click My Computer.
  3. Right-click your floppy drive, and then click Format.
  4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to format the floppy disk.

Method 2: Select another back up location

  1. Start Money.
  2. On the File menu, click Back Up.
  3. Click Back up to hard disk, click Browse to select a new back up location, and then click OK.
Note If you choose to back up your Money file to a different location on your hard disk, you may lose data if your hard disk fails.

Note If you choose to back up your Money data file to a disk recorder such as a CD-RW or DVD-RW, use the CD Writing Wizard to complete the back up process.

Method 3: Select other backup media

When using other removable media such as CD Rom drives, flash drives, zip disks or other devices, you should be able to store multiple copies of your Money backup file without running out of space.
