You cannot delete an investment in Money 2005 (890392)

SYMPTOMS

You cannot delete an investment in Microsoft Money 2005. When you click the investment that you want to delete in the Delete an Investment dialog box, you receive a message that is similar to the following:Some of the investments you selected can't be deleted because you still have open positions. You need to close the positions before you can delete the investment.This issue occurs after you close your positions on the investment.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you recorded transactions for the investment.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, delete the investment in Portfolio Manager. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Money 2005.
  2. On the Money 2005 Home page, click Investing.
  3. Under My Investing Tools, click Portfolio Manager.
  4. Right-click the investment that you want to delete, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm the deletion.

    Note If you do not want to delete the transactions that are associated with the investment from Portfolio Manager, you can close the position instead. To close a position, record a sell transaction for all the shares that are held in that investment.
Note If the investment does not appear in Portfolio Manager, you may have closed the position. To view a closed position in Portfolio Manager, click Show closed positions on the Change portfolio view menu.

  1. Start Money 2005.
  2. On the Money 2005 Home page, click Investing.
  3. Under My Investing Tools, click Portfolio Manager.
  4. Under Common tasks, click Work with investments, and then click Delete an investment.
