Password policy is not updated when replication occurs even though you applied hotfix 326112, hotfix 326797, or Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 on a Windows 2000-based computer (890338)

SYMPTOMS

If you change a password policy, the change may not be replicated throughout the domain. Instead, the password policy setting may revert to an earlier setting. For example, if you change the minimum password length policy, the minimum password length may revert to an earlier setting.

Important This problem occurs even though you installed Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) or applied one of the hotfixes that are described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:

326112 Password policy is not updated when replication occurs from one domain controller to another domain controller

326797 Some Windows 2000 Active Directory hotfixes may cause a conflict with SP3 for Windows 2000

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you installed the security update that is described in security bulletin MS04-011. A regression was introduced in this security update.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) and the MS04-011 security update installed, or you must have Windows 2000 SP4 installed.

Restart requirement

You must restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.
