The Wireless Provisioning Services (WPS) technology is available with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and in x64-based versions of Windows Server 2003. The WPS technology can be used to create a Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) network.

Note The WISP network technology is automatically configured when you use a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based WPS client computer. You do not have to manually configure your Windows XP SP2-based WPS client computer.

With a WISP network, you can provide Internet access services to new and existing customers by using wireless access points. The following plans are examples of Internet access services that an enterprise, a WISP, or a Hot Spot Service (HSP) provider can make available to WPS customers:

• Pay-per-use
• Monthly
• Long-term
• Unlimited

The wireless access points can be deployed in public areas, such as airports or shopping malls. WPS technology provides access to your wireless network without the need for you to manually configure your computer or your network connection.

Your hardware manufacturer provides technical support and assistance for Microsoft Windows x64 editions. Your hardware manufacturer provides support because a Windows x64 edition was included with your hardware. Your hardware manufacturer might have customized the Windows x64 edition installation with unique components. Unique components might include specific device drivers or might include optional settings to maximize the performance of the hardware. Microsoft will provide reasonable-effort assistance if you need technical help with your Windows x64 edition. However, you might have to contact your manufacturer directly. Your manufacturer is best qualified to support the software that your manufacturer installed on the hardware.
